They are forums to establish an open and transparent dialogue between the representatives from the neighboring communities to the subscribing companies, the governmental entities, and other stakeholders, and the delegates of the high management of these companies, in order to achieve a bigger approach, to solve their interests related with the Safety, the Health and the environment and to build a mutual respect and a mutual credibility.

Benefits of the Panels:

Panels help the citizens to understand how the industry and company topics, are related with their own personal interests.

They help the company to understand the citizens’ interests that are not always evident.

They provide opportunities to explain complex topics related with the production in a setting that receives and promotes an open and frank discussion, guiding those interests toward the mutual improvement through programs or activities.

They provide opportunities for a dialogue between the citizens and the company employees about future projects.

They build credibility.

They help the companies to won the right to operate.

The Panels began their operation in March 2002 in Barranquilla, then in Cartagena in July 2003 and later in Bogotá in November 2004. They have been carried out 17 distributed this way: 10 in Barranquilla, 4 in Cartagena and 3 in Bogotá.

The common topics developed in the different cities have been related with the clean production, the companies operations effects on health of the local communities and the Environment, the preventive measures adopted by them, and the Answer to Emergencies.

The panelists have pointed out the participation and the local interaction (company-local communities-authorities), the benefit utility and importance of the treated topics and the preparation of the companies to face emergencies.
